WebMar 5, 2015 · I found and 1960's Teisco Checkmate 15 tube amp designed to be driven by a pair of 7189A power tubes. Since 7189A's were out of production for some time, the previous owner replaced them with TAD EL84-CZ's and soldered a 5W 0,33 ohm resistor to the 9th pin of each of them, apparently to lower the dissipation to regular El84 specs. WebI recently purchased an old solid state Teisco Checkmate 20 amplifier. I like solid state amps because I like to fingerpick and play slide/lap steel guitar with a very clean tone. I was interested in this amp because I own a couple Teisco guitars and I like the kind of weird tone of these amps I heard online.
